A Woman Worth Following

We are going to look at "The Women" as Luke describes them in the bible.
Their story is found in Luke 8:1-3.
Jesus has recently left Capernaum where He had healed the Centurions servant and confirmed to John that He was the Messiah. Also in this place He had ministered to the lives and hearts of many women. Capernaum was the place where Jesus resided as stated in Matthew 4:12-17,”Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Napthali, so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “The land of Zepulun and the land of Napthali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles – the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” From that time on Jesus began to preach, saying, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” These women are not mentioned before he begins his ministry in Capernaum, so we can assume all these women had their lives dramatically altered after coming in contact with Jesus.
We learn that these women were:
1.      Spiritual dead as quoted by the apostle Matthew
2.     Some had to be healed
3.     Contributed to the ministry of Jesus financially
4.     From different socio-economic backgrounds
Magdalene was a woman who had been possessed by 7 demons. This just shows how dreadful her situation was. Possibly single since there isn't a husband mentioned.
Joanna was married to the household manager to Herod. It is believed that she gave Luke a lot of information regarding Herod’s view of Jesus. It is believed that she and her husband began believing in Jesus. We see more in depth information concerning how Herod felt about Jesus in Luke than in the other gospels.
Susanna was a woman that we don’t know anything else about but that she followed Jesus.
In these names we see 3 different types of women that were all committed to Jesus. I believe all of us can identify ourselves with at least one of these women. Maybe you are a woman like Magdalene who was healed and everyone clearly saw a change in her life. Or you are like Joanna a woman who was accustomed to the likes of royalty but rather left all of that to follow the Lord. It could have been a career or you denied a proposal because the Lord had a different plan for you and people in your circle wondered why you made that decision. Lastly, maybe you are like Susanna who just followed the Lord, there wasn't anything special about her but she was committed. You don't work for a ministry or have some public reputation but rather you just love the Lord Jesus. We don’t all have to look the same but we all have to follow Jesus.
Let’s see how long these women followed and ministered to Jesus.
Read Luke 23:49
These women followed him to his crucifixion they were committed to see his life and death and witness the impact of that to the end. They wanted to accurately know everything that happened to their savior.
